Tai Chi Reduces Stress and Anxiety

We know of course, that Tai Chi is an ancient art practised in China over many centuries. We have been discussing the many ways Tai Chi can help in our everyday lives.

Previously we wrote about balance and flexibility in relation to the original article. We now move on to the next point of interest which is relieving stress and anxiety. 

You will many articles on the subject, but let’s do a quick rundown on what is a common theme.

It is a gentle form of exercise that involves slow, flowing movements and deep breathing, which can help to reduce stress and anxiety in a number of ways:

  1. Promotes relaxation: The slow, gentle movements of Tai Chi can help to calm the mind and promote relaxation. This can help to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

  2. Mindfulness: Tai Chi involves focusing the mind on the present moment, which can help to reduce the tendency to worry about the future or dwell on the past. This can lead to a greater sense of calm and tranquillity.

  3. Breathing: Tai Chi emphasizes deep, slow breathing, which can help to reduce the physiological effects of stress on the body, such as elevated heart rate and blood pressure.
